The Department of Physiotherapy at RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital was established in 2003 with the objective of addressing the preventive, curative, therapeutic, and rehabilitative healthcare needs of the rural population. ELIGIBILITY: 10+2, A Level, IB, American 12th Grade or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, English & Biology with a minimum of 45% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Qualifying Examination
Candidates seeking admission to the First Year Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) programme must fulfill one of the following criteria:
Must have passed the two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by the Department of Pre-University Education, Government of Karnataka, with English as a compulsory subject and Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as optional subjects, passing each subject individually.
OR
Must have passed any other examination conducted by a recognized Board/Council/Intermediate Examination established by the State or Central Government and recognized as equivalent to the two-year Pre-University Examination by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) / Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, passing each subject individually.
Candidates who have completed the Pre-University Course with Vocational Physiotherapy as an optional subject are also eligible for admission to the BPT programme.
Marks Requirement
Admission to the BPT programme is based on merit, subject to the following conditions:
Candidates must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English individually.
A minimum of 45% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology is required in the qualifying examination.
For candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), or Category I, the minimum aggregate required is 40% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Age Criteria
The candidate must have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
Medical Fitness
All candidates must submit a Medical Fitness Certificate issued by an authorized Government Medical Officer, confirming that the candidate is physically fit to undergo the Physiotherapy course.
Duration of the Course
The BPT programme duration is four and a half (4½) years, which includes six months of compulsory internship.
Medium of Instruction
English shall be the medium of instruction for all subjects and examinations of the BPT course.
The course will train the students:
- To attain knowledge on preclinical and clinical subjects.
- To acquire knowledge on the therapeutic exercises and modalities.
- To acquire the therapeutic skills in treating the patients with any medical or surgical conditions.
- To acquire the knowledge of professional ethics in treating the patients.
- To acquire the practice of multidisciplinary professional team coordination in treating the patients in the health care setup.
At the completion of the Bachelor’s Degree course in Physiotherapy the student will be able to:
- Acquire adequate knowledge of the basic medical subjects in the practice of physiotherapy.
- Develop skills and techniques of therapeutic massage and exercise for the management of various medical and surgical conditions.
- Development of proper attitude of compassion and concern for the individuals and welfare of the physically-challenged in the community.
- Demonstrate skill in teaching, management, research, guidance and counseling.
- Practice moral and ethical values.
